” Results – 9th December”
Unfortunately most of our matches were postponed due to frozen pitches this weekend. Only one team played, the A Team…
Mixed A won 3-1 away to Leicester University
Goals: Jack March, Noel Burton & Charlie Schanschieff
“The Market Harborough Mixed A team assembled once again, after a two match break, in bitter conditions. Although feeling the cold, Harborough looked full of positivity and drive to beat the current league leaders, however needing lots of encouragement from replacement captain Peter Skerrett with their regular determined captain Marissa Bole away on work Christmas party duties.
The whistle blew and Harborough made a strong start, with fluid and dynamic passes moving from the back and using the wings effectively to create chances up front. They knew that the youth of Leicester Uni would give them problems towards the second half and so needed to get a few early goals. With this in mind Harborough managed to secure an early short corner with only a few minutes on the clock. With Jack March giving a firm push-out across the concrete like surface, due to the freezing conditions, the luminous orange ball fell to the usual feet of Noel Burton, who slipped right to stand-in captain Skerrett who first time pushed the ball across the attacking D to a waiting March who slotted a beautifully worked goal.
With fingers falling off, Skerrett once again assisted Burton with a fantastically weighted pass which landed on his stick and left Burton only having to beat the keeper. One being a scary, intense and padded bloke ready to do anything and the other the goal keeper… you can imagine the result, 2-0 to the Mixed As.
With a lead in Harborough’s favour, the beginning of the second half found Leicester pushing forward and having the majority of possession. Every week I talk about the fantastic work by our defence and this week was no let up, especially thanks to Jack Wells who really fitted in with the team and created some fantastic chances. Despite everyone’s good work Leicester managed to tap the ball in by a loose stick in the D.
With 5 minutes to play Harborough began to push forwards and use the width of the pitch well. Some fantastic passing from Sophie Millet and Charlie Schanschieff down the right wing led to a final short corner. A final chance? The call was simple, get on the post. Schanschieff fired out the ball, and Skerrett swiftly passed the ball towards the left post where Schanschieff stepped in a with a simple deflection to put Harborough 3-1 up.
The best performance yet from the Mixed As, with fantastic movement and great team goals. A fantastic achievement to beat the league leaders and they look forward to what the final game of the year has to offer. Hopefully it won’t be as cold!”
