Saturday:

Men’s 1 won 6-4 at home to Nuneaton

Goals: Jon Cooper (3), Ryan Harrison (2) & Nick Hall

Men’s 2 won 5-3 at home to Buxton

Goals: Krish Jasinarachchi (3) & Ben Morgan Williams

Women’s 1 lost 2-6 away to Burton 1

Goals: Ellie Hand & Charlotte Smith

Women’s 2 drew 4-4 at home to Lutterworth Ladies 1

Goals: Charlotte Butler (3) & Sophie Millett

Player of the Match was Charis Simpkin

“The Women’s 2s faced their final game of the season this weekend, against Lutterworth Ladies 1. It was a drizzly morning, but Harborough could face any conditions after the frostbite they suffered the week before.

The game began and Lutterworth instantly gained power of the ball and scored for an early lead. Minutes later, however, Harborough’s Charlotte Butler swiftly hit one into the net. Soon after another goal gave Harborough the upper hand, from a short corner which ricocheted around the D to land in front of Sophie Millett on the post to tap in. End-to-end play continued throughout the half until Lutterworth slipped through to close the gap in the score.

Within two minutes of the second half, Harborough dominated once again as a base line lead created by Caroline Dow was passed across the goal for Charlotte to tap in on her reserve stick, bringing the score to 3-2. This was held tightly until the speedy Lutterworth forwards ran hard with the ball and scored two more. Harborough made many attempts at the opposition’s goal and with seconds to spare Charlotte scored her Hattrick to end the game with a draw.

A thrilling D-to-D match enjoyed by both sides. Charis Simpkin was given Player of the Match for her steadfast defending and double save on the goal line.”

Women’s 3 lost 0-1 away to Leicester University Women’s 2

“We started out strong and batted away their attacks admirably. With stalwart defending led by Ruth Staunton they were not getting through. We roamed, and tackled and roamed a bit more! An accidental foot rewarded the Uni with a short corner, and they scored!

Let that not detract from a stellar performance from all the team, who at points played really well. We had quite a few new girls today and they all did really well.

1-0 to them.”

Badgers won 2-1 away to Northampton Saints

Goals: Owen Arthur (2)

“Market Harborough Badgers played their socks of this week against Northampton Saints. We always have a good game against them, but this week we had a brilliant match. We won 2-1 with both goals scored by Owen Arthur. Saints played a strong team against us, but our whole team played to their best and stopped Saints on many of their runs against us. Sam Haynes-Coote hit some great shots into the opposition’s D, setting up many opportunities.

We had two new players join us this week, Natalie Baulmer and May Townsley who both played very well for their first game out with Badgers. Well done all.”

Sunday

Men’s 3 won 8-0 at home to Newark

Goals: Matthew Cook (2), Ryan Harrison, Luke van Diepen, Jason Perry, Ben Morgan Williams, Liam McLean & Stephen Parr

Player of the Match was Matti Hodgson

“Matti Hodgson was Player of the Match – listen out for the name – the lad played well on his Men’s team debut.”

Women’s 1 lost 5-0 Newark Ladies 1
