Here are our results and reports from the weekend… a veritable goal-fest!

Mixed A won 5-3 away to Horizon – securing promotion into Division 1

‪Goals: Jack Wells (4) & Jack March‬

“The Mixed A had a lot riding on their final league match of the season versus 2nd place Horizon, requiring a win or a draw at a minimum to secure promotion from Division 2 to Division 1 ahead of 3rd place Leicester University.

A handful of players were out due to injury but help was on hand with a few returning and a few guest members making up the final numbers, thankfully not upsetting the normal rhythm of the team’s play. However, it was certainly a game of two halves. Perhaps the pressure of what was at stake was playing on the players minds, or the beach worthy quantity of sand on the pitch on their sticks, ball and passes. Play was timid, with little calling and a seeming (although unjustified) lack of confidence in the overall team play. Only one goal came Harborough’s way in the first half with Horizon making the most of the only three chances they got with well put together 1-2 passes and shots on goal, which unfortunately found the back of the net in each case. 3-1 down at half time, something would have to change if the team were to come out on top and guarantee their place in Division 1.

A quick talk by Captain Marissa Bole at half time, reminding the team they were more than capable of turning this around, meant the team headed out to give it their all and enjoy their last league match of the year before their Plate Final next week. The looming last push did the trick and the second half was certainly Harborough’s with some beautiful passes, plenty of subbing allowing them to keep the pace up, and managing to finish their attacks on goal with points. After a few breaks and further points on the board courtesy of Jack Wells, one from a spectactular diving sweep, Horizon seemed to give up, a little in shock that Harborough had in fact turned the game around.

Jack was certainly the name of this game with a total of four goals scored by forward Jack Wells, after taking on the opposition’s defence on multiple occasions supported by midfielders Imogen March, Ryan Harrison and Peter Skerrett. It was then young winger Jack March that scored the final goal of the match after a sweeping run down the sideline and across into the D along the baseline. From the most impossible angle he swept the ball between the defender and left post much to the team’s delight. Final score from sustained attack and solid defence … 5-3 from the comeback team, never down and out, Mixed A!

An absolutely outstanding season from all involved, securing double promotion over the last two seasons and always believing. Congratulations to every team member and supporting players from across the club. Next stop Division 1! It’ll be two weeks before it’s known whether this is as Runners Up or League Champions (all pending other team’s final match result). Watch this space!”

Badgers won 5-0 away to Long Buckby

‪Goals: Owen Arthur (4) & Ben Morgan Williams‬

“We had an away game this week against Long Buckby, we needed two things from this game, a win and plenty of goals to help us on the table. Market Harborough Badgers gave us both with a win of 5-0!

We had our biggest squad of the season turn up, which was great (but very busy sorting subs!), because it was such a hot day, plenty of subs always helps. 4 goals came from Owen Arthur who challenged their keeper many times and the last goal was from Ben Morgan Williams who had decided in the last 5 minutes he was going to score and went past many opposition players to get his goal. We were strong throughout the whole game, but had to keep an eye on the opposition, because Long Buckby were always fighting back hard if we made a mistake.

The whole team played really well and have put us in a strong position on the Table with points. Well done all!”
