Results – 24th November
Our results from last Saturday, with the last of the Women’s matches before the Christmas break…
Men’s 1 drew 4-4 at home to Leamington 1
Goals: Ali Williams, Nick Hall, Tom Whitehouse & Rob Smith
Player of the Match was Nicholas Hall
“Men’s 1s welcomed Leamington in a champions league spot clash. An early goal put Harborough up, but this was short lived. A fiercely contested game saw Harborough go behind three times in the second half but dogged hockey prevailed and saw us through. A huge moment saw Harborough score with the last stick of the game with a short corner deftly buried home by Rob Smith.
The final score of 4-4 was a fair reflection of the game!”
Men’s 2 lost 3-7 away to Leamington 2
Goals: Richard Goswell, David Littlewood & Joe Butler
Men’s 3 won 3-2 away to Tamworth 3
Goals: Jason Perry, Wyn Sleeman & Thomas Parry
“It was a long journey for the 3’s this week, they played away at Tamworth in a close game, lit under the floodlights.
Harborough took the lead early on thanks to an unbelievable bit of skill from Jason Perry, chipping the keeper, surprisingly the goal stayed intact! Harborough scored again with a slightly luckier goal, a ball across the D, deflected in by one of Tamworth’s defenders, 2-0. Tamworth scored next from a short corner, where an unlucky bobbling hit found its way into the goal. Tamworth scored again, from another short, this time though a great bit of skill opened up the space and a strong, well placed shot left the game at 2-2 going into the second half.
Having no subs affected Harborough as everyone started to run out of energy. This was the same for both teams and lazy play lead to a short for Harborough. Mixing things up, Wyn Sleeman hit the ball straight from the top of the D – this worked incredibly, as the clean hit from Wyn found the corner of the goal, 3-2!
Harborough held on, offence is the best defence, and continued to attack not letting Tamworth have any shots. The game went down to the wire, a short corner to Tamworth as the last play in the game, scoring would finish the game as a draw… but, solid defending put the ball well wide of goal and the game finished 3-2 to Harborough, well worth the travel!”
Women’s 1 lost 0-5 at home to Loughborough Town Women’s 1st
Women’s 2 won 1-0 away to Roundhill Women’s 1
Goal: Imogen March
Player of the Match was Ella Partridge
“Another win for the Women’s 2 this week was forged when Imogen March scored within the first two minutes assisted by a shot across the goal from Ella Partridge. End-to-end action ensued for the rest of the match as the 2s worked hard to maintain possession, with a number of penalty corners and chances on goal unfortunately not quite hitting the spot. In the last minute Roundhill almost equalised with a penalty corner, adding to the drama from the start to the very end of the match.
With a number of regular players unavailable and plenty of extra help drafted in, the team were able to keep their second place position in the Division going into the Christmas break. A big thank you to everyone that has played for the team so far this season!”
Badgers won 5-0 at home to Northampton Saints 1
Goals: Owen Arthur (2), Ruby Howe, Cian Kirke & Finn Ingram-Hawkes
“Wow, what a game, we had another win this week with a great game against Northampton Saints.
We won 5-0 but Saints made work for every goal. We played a very good game with all our players keeping their positions and passing the ball well, which meant we had many chances on Saints’ Goal. Well played Megan who had her first game out for Badgers in goal and did a great job – always watching the ball and being in the right place when needed. Also a big thank you to Nigel for being second adult.
Well played all and a big thank you to our lots of supporters this week. Thanks!”
