Funding confirmed for new pitch!

We are pleased to announce that funding from Harborough District Council has been approved towards a new artificial pitch at Robert Smyth Academy.

Harborough District CouncilOver the past year, lots of work has been going on behind the scenes at MHHC to assist Robert Smyth Academy and partners obtain funding for a new pitch, to benefit both the school and the local Harborough community. The confirmation of the funding from Harborough District Council is a welcome step forward in what we hope will be an exciting time for the future of hockey in the Harborough district!

Market Harborough Hockey Club would like to extend our thanks and gratitude following the confirmation that Harborough District Council will contribute £370,000 towards a new artificial pitch at Robert Smyth Academy, to be used by ourselves and other sports.

Whilst we still need to raise more funds, this award, in addition to the other partner funding already committed to date, is a massive step forward in creating an amazing new asset for the hockey Club, Robert Smyth Academy and most importantly the Harborough community. The new facility will provide significantly improved opportunities for young people and adults to have greater access to hockey (and other sports) as we expand our hockey offering to include a second pitch within Market Harborough.

More information on this award, and the other great work supported by Harborough District Council, is available here.

Aside from thanking our Club members that have supported this project in many forms, in particular Gary Pedler, I would particularly like to extend our special thanks to Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, who has provided fantastic support and encouragement for this project. Plus, Michael Rickman and everybody involved at Harborough District Council that supported this award being granted. Special mentions and thanks also for Dan Cleary, Principal of Robert Smyth Academy, and Lee Fletcher, Director of Extended Services, who have both been hugely supportive and influential, as we embark on a new long term relationship and the next phase of our hockey journey.

We look forward to sharing more news in the coming months.
