Results – 2nd November

Another wet and windy Saturday on the hockey pitch, with mixed results for our teams but some quality hockey on display from all.

Men’s 1 won 6-1 at home to Oundle 1

Goals: Jon Cooper (2), Tom Whitehouse (2), Ben Langdown & Ryan Harrison

Player of the Match: Sebastian Jones

Men’s 2 drew 3-3 away to Warwick 4

Goals: Harry Wilford, Rich Goswell & Noel Burton

Player of the Match: Harry Wilford

Men’s 3 lost 1-7 at home to Leicester Men’s 4

Goal: Cian Kirke

“A youthful Mens 3s shorn of a few senior players took on Leicester Men’s 4 at a soggy Welland Park. A fast start by Leicester led to an early goal. Harborough snapped into action and began to battle hard. Despite a second Leicester goal, Harborough built some pressure resulting in a penalty flick nicely converted by Cian.

2-1 at half time was a good return. However a fast restart by Leicester saw them quickly go ahead to 4-1. Harborough stuck to it manfully but the killer pass was missing and tired legs and skilful opponents hit regularly on the break. The final scoreline of 7-1 didn’t feel reflective of the overall game. All the Harborough players worked their socks off and are to be congratulated for their unstinting effort.”

Women’s 1 lost 1-4 away to Loughborough Students Ladies 5 (Leicestershire Cup)

Goal: Liv Edwins

Women’s 2 lost 1-4 at home to Charnwood Sileby Ladies 1s (Leicestershire Cup)

Goal: Jennifer Pollock

Player of the Match: Emily Doe

“One of the soggiest matches so far, but one in which there were some lovely passages of play, and another cracking well-aimed shot from Jennifer Pollock. Harborough kept possesion well, and had many chances in the Charnwood D, but couldn’t quite convert, leaving the opposition to take the win. Well played all!”

Badgers drew 2-2 at home to Welford

Goals: Ben Matthews & Finn Ingram-Hawkes

“In a very close, friendly and completive match, the new Badgers team played really well this week, displaying their improving skills throughout the game. Two great goals from Ben and Finn kept the score level. Well played all!”
