Our results for the weekend.

Women’s 1 won 4-1 away to Leicester University Women’s 1s

Goals: Charis Simpkin, Sally Trappitt-Jones, Emily Grimmett & Rachel Richardson

Women’s 2 won 19-0 at home to Roundhill Women’s 1

Goals: Lucy James (4), Grace Howe (4), Cat Dabbs (3), Grace Clarke (2), Sue Henderson (2), Ella Partridge (2), Hatty Clements & Ruby Howe

“Despite what the scoreline might suggest, this match was a good-natured game. Roundhill have plenty of experience on their side but this proved no match for the young Harborough team. Both halves were very similar with the 2s being 9-0 up at half time, and goals were scored both in open play and from short corners.

Special mention to all the Roundhill players, who are all good-sports and kept smiling throughout the game (and in the pub afterwards!).”

Men’s 1 won 6-1 away to Melton 2

Goals: Tom Whitehouse (3), Tom Williams, Jon Cooper & Nick Hall

Men’s 2 drew 3-3 at home to Northampton Saints (Dav) 4

Goals: Stuart McCagney, Noel Burton & Matt Cook

Player of the Match: Lee Gaterell

Men’s 3 lost 0-17 away to Loughborough Carillon 1

Player of the Match: Mike Haynes-Coote

“Harborough Men’s 3s knew this was going to be a difficult match, but still put in a valiant effort from the get go. Towards the end of the first half they seemed to find their pace a little better with the ball getting into the opposition’s D. Second half saw Harborough applying good pressure and forcing some errors. Despite this Loughborough proved the better team with the final score 17-0.

Player of the Match goes to Mike Haynes-Coote who spent most of the time in a shooting alley but was critical in keeping many attempts out. Special mention also to Owen Arthur who received compliments from opposition.”

Badgers won 5-0 away to Northampton Saints 2

Goals: Finn Ingram-Hawkes (2), Ben Matthews, James Parry & Niamh Burton

“The Badgers played really well. A solid performance from each and every one of them, with great flowing hockey and awareness of the game and positions of the players on the field.

A win on the road and a clean sheet as well. Not sure if it was five or six, but we hit the post twice and had several more shots on target. It was rather cold but the away supporters were vocal and in fine form!”

Women’s 1 won 2-0 at home to Milton Keynes Ladies 2 (England Hockey Championships)

Goals: Sally Trappitt-Jones & Milly Docherty

“Women’s 1s are through to the second round of the England Hockey Championships after a brilliant 2-0 win over Milton Keynes 2s.

Harborough went into the game not expecting much but we soon proved this wasn’t going to be the case. Every ball was chased down, positions were maintained and GK Sophie Tomlinson had a blinder to help us get to halftime 0-0.

The 1s grew in confidence in the second half, working the ball nicely up the pitch with Fiona Ginn and Ella Partridge driving into the D at every opportunity. Harborough’s pressure soon told, earning a short corner. The ball was hit out to Sally Trappitt-Jones on the edge of the D, who disguised her shot sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and the ball shot past into the goal.

Harborough didn’t hold back and kept pressing forward. The ball made it out to Lucy James on the right who dribbled down the baseline before pulling it back to Fiona who slipped it to Milly Docherty at the back post to score.

A fantastic performance from all involved today, bring on the next round!”
