Our results from the weekend…

Men’s 1 won 2-1 away to Oundle 1

Goals: Tom Williams & Thomas Parry

Player of the Match: Thomas Parry

“The Men’s 1st team travelled to 4th place Oundle for a possible banana peel on their way to promotion. As many teams have done since Christmas Oundle went for the half court press for damage limitation. In short it worked; despite having 80% of the possession it was only a 2-1 win for Harborough thanks to a couple of crucial goals by Tom Williams and Player of the Match Thomas Parry to make it 2-0.

The Oundle goal came with the last touch of the game, a dreadful short corner, an air smash from Johnny Ashwin and the Harborough keeper let it dribble between his legs. Not our best performance but a job done.”

Men’s 2 won 3-2 at home to Warwick 4

Goals: Matt Cook, Richard Goswell & Sam Haynes-Coote

Player of the Match: Mike Haynes-Coote

Men’s 3 won 4-3 away to Leicester 4

Goals: James Lindsay, David Littlewood, Jake Sutherland & Sam Wilson

Player of the Match: Sam Wilson

“It was a good start from the off, but it was the hosts who took the lead against the run of play. The 3s didn’t drop their heads and equalised soon after with a sweet strike from Sam Wilson which found its way into the top corner.

Now with the momentum in their stride, the attacks came flooding in against the Leicester goal. Sam played a neat ball to an unmarked James Lindsey who buried it in the bottom corner. With half-time approaching Leicester started on the attack, and made it 2-2.

Second half starts and it is very much anyone’s game to win at this point. A powerful short corner shot from David Littlewood found its way into the back of the net. Leicester then piled on the pressure to try and equalise again but got hit on the counterattack. Rafal Hodgson had his shot parried by the keeper, which then fell to the stick of Jake Sutherland who chipped it over him.

Leicester came back with a goal of their own from a short corner. 10 minutes remained with a constant flood of pressure from the hosts who threatened for an equaliser; but the Harbrough defence stood strong and held out the win.

Player of the Match went to Sam Wilson whose attacking display was superb.”

Women’s 1 won 5-0 at home to Loughborough Town 3

Goals: Charlotte Butler (2), Ellie John, Milly Docherty & Emily Grimmett

Player of the Match: Milly Docherty

“In the first minute of the game Harborough bombed it into the D. It was a great ball from Sally Trappitt-Jones to Emily Grimmett who dribbled down the baseline and pulled it back into Charlotte Butler who tapped it straight into the goal!

Despite controlling possession for the whole of the first half, the team only scored the one goal. However, the defence was solid throughout, keeping the ball from our own goal, especially with Ellie John at the back. Emma Blake played solidly the whole game defending and attacking as it seemed fit.

After half time, we came back stronger than ever and scored four more. One fabulous short corner—Sally stopped and slipped it to Ellie who smashed it into the goal. The third goal started at the back from Sam Care who smacked it precisely to Charlotte Smith who then passed solidly to Milly Docherty who rounded off a really nice move and popped it into the goal. Followed by a soaring eagle celebration of Emily Grimmett’s drag-flick from a short, and a scrappy goal to finish as Charlotte won the ball and tapped it in!

Player of match went to Milly for her excellent play throughout the game, keeping strong and always wanting the ball more than the opposition. Hats off! Well played, 5-0 well earned.”

Women’s 2 lost 0-6 away to Loughborough Carillon

Player of the Match: Sophie Tomlinson

“The away fixture to the team currently riding unbeaten at the top-of-the-table was never going to end well, but the 2s took it in their stride and played out a game of damage limitation. The team did have a number of chances in the Loughborough D but couldn’t quite get around their skilfull keeper. Despite the heavy scoreline the girls had a good match, and were able to use it to practise some vital defensive play!

Player of the Match went to GK Sophie, who kept the scoreline down with some fine saves. Well played all!”

Mixed A won 3-2 at home to Leicester Hospitals (Kibworth)

Goals: Tom Pedler(2) & Laura Jarmulewski

U16s Girls won 7-0 at home to& Kettering 7-0 (England Hockey Championships)

Goals: Maisie Howe (2), Evie Hunter (2), Lily Burdon, Emily Doe, Emma Sleeman

“Storm Dennis didn’t stop the U16s Girls today as they put in a fine performance to beat Kettering 7-0 in their England Hockey Championship match at home. Kettering never really got a look-in as the Harborough team dominated the game throughout, with 7 goals to show for their hard work. Well done all!”
