Women’s 1 won 3-1 away to Melton Ladies 1st XI
Goals: Charlotte Butler (2) & Emily Grimmett
Player of the Match: Charlotte Smith
“Women’s 1 continued their good start to the decade with a 3-1 win over Melton Ladies 1. With Dave busy supporting the Men’s promotion push Mr Howe (aka Dad) was pursuaded into helping as a substitute coach. His pre-match words of wisdom “if you’re rubbish you’ll get subbed off, so you best play well”.
With those positive words ringing in their ears Harborough stepped out into the wind and did exactly that. Melton couldn’t get on the ball in the opening stages with Harborough controlling possession and working the ball well up the pitch. After spurning a few early chances the ball finally made its way to Charlotte Butler who continued her excellent form, since returning to the club, by rounding the keeper and tapping home to make it 1-0.
It should have been more going into half-time but a lapse of concentration in defence led to Melton getting an equaliser just before the break.
With the wind behind them in the second-half (tactical genius from Coach Dad) Harborough pushed on, winning a short corner which was calmly despatched by Emily Grimmett with a second drag flick goal in as many weeks. This time Harborough managed to consolidate their lead with Charlotte grabbing her second of the game to round off a comfortable win.
Player of the match goes to Charlotte Smith for controlling the game from the middle of the park and quickly breaking up play every time Melton threatened to attack.”
