Our results from the weekend...

Men's 1 won 2-1 away to Leamington 1
Goals: Nick Hall & Ali Williams
Player of the Match was Ryan Harrison

"In a strange season where the Men’s 1s have not had as many competitive games as they would have liked, the Leamington fixture on Saturday represented the last of our games against the ‘Big 3’. Leamington lie two places above Harborough, have guaranteed promotion and were expecting a procession!

Leamington's foundations were laid once they scored from an early short corner to make it 1-0. After this Harborough built and applied enormous pressure. A number of Harborough short corners eventually ended in the last play of the first half ricocheting of Nick Hall's forward defensive rebound and into the bottom corner - 1-1!

Harborough's second half performance was up there with the best. A defence that had the beating of every Leamington striker, a wall of a midfield and an ever running forward line! Leamington found it very difficult to build any possession as Harborough’s organisation and energy won the battles. Another Jon Cooper drag flick rebounded straight to Nick Hall who this time used his baseball skills to middle the ball straight into the Leamington defenders foot to give Harborough a flick. Questions were asked when Ali Williams strode confidently forward and further questions were asked when he fluffed the flick and peerolled it into the corner. Fortunately the Leamington keeper had gone the wrong way. 2-1 Harborough!

With 20 mins to hold on, Harborough were expecting an onslaught. Even with the brainless Harborough captain being sin-binned, the team rallied and never really looked like conceding. All in all a great 2-1 win to ruin Leamington's party.

Man of the Match was Ryan Harrison who put in an outstanding midfield display. This was by far Harborough's performance of the season. A truly great game!"

Men's 2 won 8-2 at home to Leamington 2
Goals: Richard Goswell (4), Noel Burton (2), Ben Morgan Williams & James Hudson

"We won the first half 4-1 and then won the second half 4-1, making it eight goals to us and two to them which means we’ve won our first game of hockey since September!

So how was this remarkable turntable of fortunes spun back in our favour(?). Well there was a little bit of Stuart MaCagney magic rustling up another colonial for a cameo performance. This time is was a lad called James whose first touch in the pre-match shooting drill was marginally less than the distance he travelled from South Africa.

The youngsters played unbelievably well - they’ve had a tough season and yesterday they shone. Ben Morgan Williams started the afternoon's festivities with a wobble into the D before calmly scoring.

Up front, Richard Goswell sallied forth towards their goal and managed to snaffle 4, and Noel Burton bagged himself a pair."

Men's 3 drew 1-1 at home to Tamworth 3
Goal: Wyn Sleeman

Women's 1 lost 0-6 away to University of Nottingham 2nd

Women's 2 lost 1-3 at home to Charnwood Sileby Ladies 1s
Goal: Sarah Hornbuckle
Player of the Match was Ella Partridge

"In the fierce wind the Women’s 2 were up against the division leaders this week. The team knew it would be tough and in the first few minutes Harborough were caught napping as Charnwood speedily stole their first goal. The 2s hunkered down, defended well and created many chances on goal, but none got past the skilled Charnwood keeper.

The second half was much like the first. The wind howled as both teams kept possession and created chances. Harborough found themselves in the Charnwood D many times, winning corners and breaking through, but luck was not on their side. Meanwhile, Charnwood's opportunities came true with two more goals, one from a short corner and another in open play.

With the scoreline at 0-3 and 10 minutes to go, Harborough bore down and piled on the pressure, winning a short corner where Sarah Hornbuckle was on-hand to hurl the ball past the keeper. Despite more short corners, numerous near misses, and the 2s maintaining possession and battling to the end, the final score remained in Charnwood’s favour.

Ella Partridge was Player of the Match for her grit and determination to win the ball. A good (windswept) game, well played all."

Women's 3 won 2-1 away to Leicester University Women's 2
Goals: Ellie Southwell & Ruby Howe

Badgers won 4-2 away to Northampton Saints Badgers 1
Goals: Luke Reeves (2), Owen Arthur & Cian Kirke

"Well, we will call this game 'The Magnificent 7 + 1'. Our team was a little bit short this week, but we thought we would give it our best against Saints who had a full squad, 2 adults and rolling subs; while our team only had 8 players!

I guess I better say we won 4-2, it was a brilliant game, Harborough Badgers just passed the ball around Saints and had many chances on their goal; but we still all had to run back to protect our D if they made a break.

Megan Astbury did a great job in goal, but they managed to score a great shot past us, their second goal came from a penalty flick caused by me being hit with the ball in the arm in our D. But we always pushed back after their chances and kept the pressure on. Goals came from Luke Reeves (2), Owen Arthur and Cian Kirke. Well played all, we ran miles today."
