Results – 30th November/1st December

Our results from a busy weekend, where some matches were called off due to frozen pitches, but other matches went ahead with some interesting results...

Saturday:

Men’s 2 lost 1-6 away to Rugby & East Warwickshire 5
Goal: Richard Goswell
Player of the Match: Adam Smith

"Men's 2 travelled to Rugby and despite efforts and a goal from Vice Captain (and Club Player of the Season contender), Richard Goswell, the team narrowly lost 6-1.

A great performance by all, with Player of the Match going to the youngster Adam Smith on his debut."

Men’s 3 drew 0-0 at home to Coventry & North Warwick 3
Player of the Match: Thomas Ainsworth

"Overall, Harborough were the dominant side as the game was mostly played in their final third. The 3s won a number of short corners and had opportunities to convert these into goals that unfortunately didn't quite pay off.

Harborough retained possession well throughout and were very solid in defence, but the opposition no.5 proved to be the unbreachable wall in their defence.

There are signs that the team is gelling together more and had a good blend of young and experienced players. Thomas Ainsworth generated real moments in the midfield and was voted Player of the Match. It was our game to win but it finished 0-0."

Women’s 3 lost 0-7 at home to Loughborough Carillon Ladies

"The 3s rocked up with a full team but it didn't make a jot of a difference as Loughborough Carillon were top of the league and they showed it! We had periods of brilliance then we didn't, and Helen Fletcher did amazingly well in goal – how she kept the score so low we will never know!

We tried our hardest, but they were good. Final score was 7-0 Loughborough Carillon Ladies, but they were brilliant!"

Mixed A won 15-0 at home to Loughborough Carillon Merlins
Goals: Imogen March (3), Emily Williams (2), Ben Langdown (2), Toby Fletcher (2), Tom Pedler (2), Jake Sutherland (2), Thomas Ainsworth & Harry Wilford
Players of the Match: Imogen March & Ben Langdown

"Carillon only turned up with 9 players so that probably did have an influence on the score line, but I think the outcome would have been the same had they turned up with a full squad.

Other than the goals and the style in which the team played it is tough to pick out a highlight. My personal favourite was undoubtedly seeing Jake Sutherland scoring his first goal for the Club and more importantly his celebration – a simple 1950’s Tom Finney style handshake with his provider, a very bemused looking Langers … top work fella!"

Badgers lost 3-9 away to Long Buckby
Goals: Ben Matthews (2) & James Parry
Player of the Match: Luca Khurmi-Tod

"The weather was very different from when Badgers last turned out at the Parker E-ACT Academy to face Long Buckby Badgers. The temperature barely pushing above freezing despite the pitch being bathed with some late autumn sunshine.

The match was all square for the first couple of minutes but a well drilled Long Buckby quickly hit three goals without reply with only eight minutes on the clock. Fifteen minutes in and Buckby were on the scoresheet again. Harborough rallied and hit back with a goal from James Parry and another from Ben Matthews before Buckby scored two more before the interval.

A rallying team talk saw Harborough playing some solid attacking hockey and some great saves from Jake Partington in goal held the score level well into the second half. Harborough had several ventures into the Buckby D and a couple of shots on target were well saved by the diminutive opposition goal keeper. With a little over ten minutes left Buckby scored three quick goals before Ben Matthews hit the back board to grab a late consolation goal for Badgers.

Final score: Long Buckby Badgers 9 Harborough Badgers 3"

Sunday:

U16 Boys lost 1-4 away to Khalsa Leamington (England Hockey Championships)
Goal: Owen Arthur

"Despite the losing scoreline the boys played an excellent game today in their third England Hockey Championships match. The match could have gone either way but unfortunately this time luck was on the side of the home team. Harborough had many attempts on goal and the new boys added to the team integrated well. Well played all!"
