MEN'S 3 lost 2-8 at home to Northampton Saints 4
Goals: Richard Goswell & Ant Raisbury
The Men's 3s went down 2-8 to top-of-the -able Northampton Saints 4 but it was a solid performance. Saints went ahead through a scrapy goal, but Harborough soon got it back to 1-1. After that however, we struggled against a very strong team.
Dave Munroe in goal made some great saves, with Alex Osborne and James Parry working very hard in defence. The team were 1-4 down at half-time and despite everyone working hard and giving everything. Harborough could only do the same score in the second half.
MEN'S 4 drew 1-1 away to Khalsa Leamington 5
Goal: Phil Dickinson
Player of the Match: Simon Ingram-Hawkes
On possibly the warmest November day for many a year, the Men's 4s had a 4:30pm pushback at St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre and the first match of the season under lights with Warwick castle providing a scenic backdrop.
The first half was an equal affair with both sides creating chances but being denied by good defending. David Wilford and Navdeep Singh keeping the opposition at bay. Goalkeeper Simon Ingram-Hawkes pulled off a couple of decent saves, including one that was destined for the top corner. Josey Sturgess, Richard Parr and Rob Davies organising the midfield both in attack and defence. 0-0 at the break.
A half-time talk of “more of the same” and the second half started much the same as the first. Finn Ingram-Hawkes dropped back to defence and David Wilford soaked up the Leamington attacks. Ryan Bacon, Louis Dickinson and Phil Dickinson ran the line with George Smith and Jake Sutherland putting in the yards behind the forward line.
A spirited Harborough attack saw the visitors earn a penalty stroke that was well saved by the Khalsa keeper. Undeterred, Harborough continued to press and a deep ball from Rob Davies was picked up by Louis Dickinson who fed through to Phil Dickinson who slotted past the oncoming keeper. 0-1 to Harborough.
Khalsa came on the attack and earned several short corners. A long period of home pressure resulted in what our reporter is not sure was either a well taken or an opportunistic goal, crossing and tapped in on the far post. Ten minutes left and all to play for. A grandstand finish but no further goals were added.
Final score 1-1. A thoroughly enjoyable match with some very good umpiring. Honours even.
